Is your passport valid?

September 15, 2017

Recently, travelers nationwide have been turned back at the airport while trying to board a flight because their passports did not have at least six months validity left in them.

Many countries around the world have instituted this six-month rule. The rule requires that travelers have at least six months of validity left in their passports at the time of arrival. Any new applicant without six months of validity must get a new passport in order to meet that country’s requirements.

For some countries requiring a visa the requirement is related to validity left at the time the applicant applies for the entry visa.

To determine a destination country’s entry requirements, go to the passports section of travel.state.gov, find the “Country Information” tab, and search by country.

Don’t get stuck at the airport without a current and valid passport!
