    Lu Strangford was born and raised on the family ranch at Mill Iron along with her brother Bud. Her parents were Leslie and Louise Strangford. Strangford's first job was herding sheep for her uncle, Vernon Knipfer, while he attended school in Ekalaka. She earned $5 a day. She also helped herd cattle and sheep from Mill Iron to the CY at Camp Crook, South Dakota for them.   • Shindig numbers continue to rise

    This year marked the 6th anniversary of Carter County Museum's Dino Shindig. Numbers at the event continue to grow each year, as 480 people attended the talks and children's activities on Saturday, up from 434 last year.   • Magician to perform during Days of '85

    Magician Kameron Messmer will be performing and tying balloons at the Carter County Fairgrounds on Friday, August 10 at 1:30 p.m. Messmer began performing at the age of 14 while working at his father's magic shop. He started with learning close up magic and entertaining at children's birthday parties. By age 17, he had picked up fire eating and sideshow stunts.   • Days of '85 Bump-N-Run

    An Ekalaka Bump-N-Run is scheduled for Saturday, August 11 at the Ekalaka Airport. This year’s Days of ‘85 races will offer a full concession stand and beer garden. Admittance prices are $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and free for youngsters under the age of 5. Races will start at 11 a.m. No coolers are allowed.     The Big Sky chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association will be pulling their RVs into Carter County Thursday, August 9 for a rally to be held at Camp Needmore. The chapter is celebrating their 29th anniversary and holds four rallies in different locations around Montana each year.     Registration for classes at Carter County High School and Ekalaka Junior High School, grades 7-12, will be Monday August 6, and Tuesday, August 7, in counselor Cathy Frye’s office from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Students without an appointment may come in at any time.
