Sagebrush Service Club members announced the winners of their annual Christmas lighting contest this week. On Monday, judges checked every house and business in town before selecting winners. Prizes were awarded to the top three residences and top business. Gary and Nita Schallenberger took first place, Jack and Celinda Hamblin took second and Mark and Judy Wright took third. Jon Bennion, a republican running for Montana Attorney General, stopped in Ekalaka and Alzada last Thursday. Bennion is currently Montana Attorney General Tim Fox's chief deputy and has worked at the Montana Department of Justice since 2013. He announced that he was running for Fox's seat in next year's election back in February. Originally from Billings, Bennion graduated from the University of Montana School of Law in 2005. Kenneth Harold Beltz went on his last elk hunt on December 1, 2019. Ken was born May 12, 1935 in the "old house" on the family ranch nine miles south of Boyes, MT, attended by his mom, Hilda and a midwife. His father, Harold, was in the other room. Ken attended school at Ridge and Boyes and boarded with the Capra family. We probably could have reached that consensus of opinion after the snowstorms of late September and early October, but at times since the weather has seesawed like polling data before an election. To start their round ball season, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs played Bridger in Lavina last Friday. The Dogs had an eight point lead at halftime and won the game by 13.
