One teenager died and another was injured in a crash on Highway 7 early Saturday morning, March 19. The Montana Highway Patrol said the two people were headed south near mile marker 9 at about 2:30 a.m. when the car went off the road and rolled several times into a pasture. Local Carl Knapp had already planned to donate time and materials to build a covered walking bridge between the employee parking lot on the south side of the new Carter County Healthcare Facility and the back entrance to the building before this winter. The ambulance service in Ekalaka has very few EMTs. They range in age from age twenty-four to 70+, and most have other full time jobs. Counting illness and medical leave, there are currently only four people who can take calls. An average month has 1,440 hours which need to be covered by a two-person crew for the ambulance. There are times when there are no names on the call sheet. When this happens any EMT that can respond does - whether it's the middle of the day or night....
