The staff of Carter County Museum are very excited to welcome Barb Elmore as the Museum Educator for the 2023 summer season! Beginning on Monday, June 5th, Elmore will be teaching the Carter County Geological Society Junior Science Program at the museum, helping with camp programs, and running the kids’ activities during the 11th Annual Dino Shindig July 22-23. Numbers from one of the biggest yearly events in Ekalaka have started to come in. The 10th Annual Dino Shindig once again did not disappoint dino enthusiasts in attendance and provided a boost for local businesses prior to the upcoming Days of '85 Fair and Rodeo. Carter County Museum recently introduced Chloe Chambers as Museum Educator for the summer of 2022. Chambers came from Georgia where she is a high school science teacher. Last week, she spent time teaching atlatl throwing during 4-H camp at Camp Needmore and at Buzzard Days in Makoshika State Park. Carter County Museum's 9th Annual Dino Shindig was well attended this year as the event continues to be one of the more anticipated summer events in Ekalaka. This year, forty-three volunteers worked a total of 850 hours to make the Shindig possible. The 9th Annual Dino Shindig took place over the weekend in Ekalaka. Numbers of attendees for events were up across the board from last year. Two hundred fifty-seven people attended talks and museum activities on Saturday and the museum beat its fundraising goal in the online auction. A phone call out of the blue led Stephen Ely and his wife, Melissa, to Ekalaka for a visit earlier this summer. "We fell in love," the new principal at Ekalaka Public Schools told the Eagle. Carter County Museum's Shindig had a different look and feel this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual city wide garage sale, the Chamber’s first big event to kick-off the summer season, was a great success. There were several sales, vendors and customers. A pilot cycle of the Tourism Grant Program at the Department of Commerce will award nearly $550,000 to help forty-four communities across Montana boost attendance at events to grow visitor spending.
