The CCHS Close-Up student organization will be hosting a spaghetti dinner in conjunction with this year’s “Evening with the Arts” event. Close-Up is an opportunity for students from all over the nation to travel to Washington D.C. and participate in a youth tour. Ekalaka Elementary students in grades 4th-6th have been working hard over the last few months in preparation for their performance of “Annie,” a musical with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and a book by Thomas Meehan. The original Broadway production, based on the 1924 comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray, opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years. In August 2022, Ekalaka Public Schools was able to become licensed and open a daycare for the school staff. With the closing of our only local daycare, the district felt a strong need to keep staff employed and therefore took on this project. Ekalaka Public Schools is hosting a kindergarten roundup on April 12 for any student who will be attending kindergarten in the fall of 2023. Please bring your future kindergartener to the main office at 8 a.m. along with the child’s birth certificate and immunization records. According to the National Weather Service, the total snowfall accumulation in Ekalaka from Tuesday through Friday of last week was 25 inches. An additional 1.4 inches was recorded throughout the remainder of the weekend. Charles Cook and his wife, Gail, moved to Ekalaka on August 1st. He started to learn about Ekalaka, though, shortly after Highway 323 became fully paved. Ekalaka Public Schools Principal Brian Purnell has been working in education since 2006. Purnell grew up in the cattle ranching town of John Day, Oregon, a town similar in size to Baker.
