MCTM Math Contest

Ekalaka’s junior/senior math team placed first at the regional math contest held in Plevna recently. Representing Ekalaka on the winning grade 11/12 team were Tanner Fix, Glen Frye, Ashley Schmid, Kennedy Tooke and Joe McHenry. In addition, individual honors were awarded to several students at this year’s contest. Glen Frye earned the high score on the Scholarship test and Tanner Fix earned the high score on both the Finite test and the Senior test.

Jared Pardee, Ryan Rychner, Kennedy Tooke, Glen Frye, and Tanner Fix received silver ratings for their performances. Silver ratings are awarded to students who place in the top 15-35% on all three individual tests taken during the afternoon.

The combined score on three of the senior tests determines the recipient of the regional scholarship of $200. Those honors this year went to Tanner Fix of Carter County High School.

Ekalaka’s junior high math team score put them just under Terry’s score to earn them second place. Representing Ekalaka on that team were Jared Pardee, Ryan Rychner, Tylee Loehding, Kenzie Tooke, and Turner Tooke. Figuring their way to a two-way tie for 2nd place among the 9/10 Class C teams were Heather LaBree, Mick O’Connor, and Caleb Fix. Hannah LaBree, Wyatt Kittelmann, and Tori Tooke also competed strongly at the contest.

American Math Competition

A few local students were selected to take the American Math Competition test in February of this year. Two tests are given—one for juniors and seniors and another for sophomores and freshmen. The top three scores on the junior/senior test from Carter County High School were earned by Tanner Fix, Glen Frye, and Joe McHenry, with Tanner Fix as high scorer. The top score on the freshman/sophomore test was earned by Tori Tooke.

Museum Projects

A big thanks goes to Carter County Museum, the math department’s partner in education! Last year, three students helped pilot an educational trunk which contains a growth series of femurs for cattle, deer, chickens, and the state dinosaur, Maisaura.

These three students partnered with Carter County Museum, the Museum of the Rockies, Mrs. Hammel, and Mrs. Carroll to bring science and math to students all over the state. In fact, the trunk has traveled all over the state since January. These three students had a big hand in developing the Museum of the Rockies and Carter County Museum’s first cooperative educational project: Glen Frye, Tanner Fix, and Kylee Kennedy.
