David J. Gross

 

Funeral Services for David J. Gross, 86, of Gillette, WY, formerly of Ekalaka, MT, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Ekalaka, MT. Burial will follow at the Beaver Lodge Cemetery.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Ekalaka, MT.

David passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Gillette.

David J. Gross was born on September 24, 1930 to Mike and Etta (Wickham) Gross on the family ranch near Belltower. He attended country school and graduated from Carter County High School in 1949. David entered the US Army and served in Korea.

Upon the conclusion of his military service, David returned to the family ranch. It was during this time that he met and married Vonnie Allan. David and Vonnie were married on July 30, 1956. The couple made their home on the ranch near Belltower and it was here where they were blessed with three children.

In 1979, Dave and Vonnie moved into Ekalaka. They later moved to Gillette and made this home ever since. David operated the Gillette Gun Club for over 10 years.

David enjoyed the ranch and farming life through raising cattle, sheep and training many great horses throughout his life. David was very passionate about family and his family meant everything to him. He enjoyed attending the many sporting events and activities that both his children and grandchildren participated in over the years. He enjoyed coaching many young athletes at various youth activities, as well as a being a 4-H leader.

David helped start American Legion Baseball in Ekalaka and guided the team to the State Tournament. Additionally, he loved playing cards, horseshoes, as well as hunting and being in the outdoors. David was a stranger to no one and will be remembered as a very giving person, always willing to put others needs ahead of his own.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vonnie; children, Steve (LeAnn) Gross of Gillette, Wyoming; Shelley (Kevin) Rehbein of Pine Haven; Wyoming Casey Gross of Gillette, Wyoming; grandchildren Michael, Amber, Sammye, DJ, Ranae, Katie, Ryan, Sarah and Matt; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister Dorene (Dave) Mrnak; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Etta (Wickham) Gross; siblings, Milton, Mikey, Francis and Rosey; 1 grandchild, K.C. Allan Rehbein; and 2 great-grandchildren, Devin and Dawson Wheeler.
