2017 Positive Choices Youth Conference

September 8, 2017

The 2017 Positive Choices Youth Conference will be held September 19th and 20th, 2017. This year’s speaker is Kevin Honeycutt. Honeycutt is a Technology Integration Specialist in central Kansas, where he researches and designs programs and trainings with a strong passion for helping students and teachers become successful with educational uses of technology.

He has worldwide reach presenting to over 100,000 students and educators each year. Honeycutt has an entertaining and positive message to empower today’s youth to take ownership in their challenges and their opportunities.

Honeycutt grew up in poverty and attended school in many cities across the United States. As he witnessed education around the country, he collected powerful experiences that still influence his conversations and his work with educators.

He spent 13 years teaching art, K-12 in public school and for 17 years spent summers leading creative adventure camps for kids of all ages. In 1991, he received the Making IT Happen Award which is an internationally recognized awards program for educators and leaders in the field of educational technology integration in K-12 schools. The program identifies and rewards educational technology leaders around the world for their commitment and innovation.

In 2011, he became an Apple distinguished educator and he continues to train students and teachers in the use of Apple’s powerful learning tools. In his life, he’s gone from being an at-risk kid doing stints in foster care to traveling the globe talking to audiences of educators, business people, and kids.

Honeycutt will be traveling to speak with Ekalaka students on Tuesday, September 19th from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There will also be a session for adults on September 19th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Baker High School gym. Childcare will be provided.

He will also be speaking with youth from Marmarth, Wibaux and Plevna in Baker on Wednesday, September 20th, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There will be a session for teachers at the Baker Senior Citizen’s Center on September 20th from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
