Last week, Governor Steve Bullock welcomed Montana students across the state back to school and highlighted growing innovation in Montana schools.

"As Lisa and I send our kids back to school this week, I hope every Montana student is equally as excited as they are to return to learning, friends, sports and activities," Governor Bullock said last week. "I want to thank all of the teachers, administrators and staff who work tirelessly to prepare their classrooms and lesson plans for a new year and for delivering on the promise of a great public education for our children."

"Public education is one our great equalizers, giving every Montana student the opportunity to succeed and be part of our growing economy," Bullock continued. "This year, I will be highlighting Montana schools that are full of innovation. With new preschool opportunities, to new school buildings and updated classrooms, and more broadband access in even our smallest classrooms, schools across our state are ready to foster a 21st century learning environment and prepare our students for a brighter future."

From Alberton to Ekalaka, Governor Bullock traveled the state highlighting new education programs and initiatives aimed at updating classrooms for 21st century learning environments and preparing students for future success, from preschool through post-secondary.

On Wednesday, Governor Bullock welcomed Ekalaka Elementary and Carter County High School students back to school with the help of Superintendent Dan Schrock and Board of Public Education Chair and CCHS math teacher Sharon Carroll. After a short speech, the governor fielded questions from students. The questions ranged from family life to his own education. He even fielded a few questions about President Trump.

When asked why he chose to visit Ekalaka this year as a part of his school tour, the governor replied, "I have never been here before." He went on to say that he also wanted to see the new grade school.

After questions, CCHS Student Council President Kennedy Tooke presented the governor with a Bulldog sweatshirt, and students were given the opportunity to take photos with him.

Later in the day Bullock visited Red Lodge High School. On Thursday he traveled to Franklin Elementary in Missoula and then to Alberton. Then, on Friday Governor Bullock went to Bozeman and highlighted the Gallatin College photonics associates degree program, completing his back to school tour.
