Fallon and Carter County’s Annual Spray Days will be held March 14-15, 2018. The program is a collaboration of efforts between Fallon/Carter Extension and weed departments of both counties. This year’s event boasts a great set of speakers!

The program will be held in Ekalaka on March 14 at Carter County Events Center, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided by the Carter County Weed Board.

Then, on March 15 the program will be held in Baker at the Fallon County Exhibit Hall, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided by the Fallon County Weed Board.

Chuck Wilcox, Vegetation Management Specialist, will talk about Montana soils and the geologic processes that put them where they are in the state and how those soils affect the vegetation and hydrologic features of the area. With that, he will cover how to carbon date things. Wilcox will ultimately tie it all back in to how soil properties effect herbicide efficacy and residual length. He will also cover the importance of product stewardship in relation to soil type, i.e. how treating the product will change between sandy and clayey soils.

Timm Johennesson from Warne Chemical will be discussing sprayer calibration—handgun, boom-less nozzle, and sprayer boom. Pending weather, there will be an outdoor calibration as a hands-on, how to demonstration. Johennesson will also cover diagnosing and repairing 12 volt sprayer pumps and roller pumps.

Clint Saunders is a sales specialist with CPS Timberland where they are focused on one thing—providing customers with the products and services they need to grow the best crops possible. Saunders will discuss the importance of using surfactants and water quality.

Trent Brusseau, sales representative at Dow AgroSciences, will discuss how using different aminopyralid brands can help reclaim rangelands while out spraying broadleaves. He will touch on annual grass control, as well as rangeland management after drought and fires. Brusseau will also discuss spraying at new, sensitive sites, where to spray, and when not to spray, as well as things to look for before spraying in and near sensitive areas.
