Dark skies, wind and rain didn't stop Shaun-tey Kerr from being first in Emswiler Pool this year. Saturday's opening weather wasn't optimal, but Shaun-tey said she'd been waiting her whole life for this moment; a little rain wasn't going to stop her. Shaun-tey told her mother to come back at 5 before putting on her goggles and going under.
Second year lifeguard Claire Callahan patrolled the sides of the pool, testing chlorine levels and scooping debris. Today was a slow start, but she said they've had 45 kids in the pool area in the past. It's only day one.
