Junior high girls finish second at end of year tourney

The Ekalaka Junior High Pups girls basketball team finished in second place at their end of the year tournament on November 17. The girls handily defeated Melstone in their first game. In the next game the girls squeaked out a tight victory against Sacred Heart, a team they again played in the final game of the tourney. In the second go-round, Sacred Heart beat Ekalaka by two points.

Throughout the tournament, the girls shot only 30 percent from the free-throw line. In their first game against Sacred Heart, eighth grader Heidi LaBree fouled out. In their next, LaBree, Tyra O’Connor and Codi Melton all finished the game from the bench with five fouls.
