Spotter training for weather events slated for April 24

The National Weather Service out of Billings will be instructing a Spotter Training Class in Alzada and Ekalaka. The National Weather Service relies on trained volunteers to supplement Doppler radar information on severe storms and severe weather. Their valuable cooperation is important in the warning process. Weather reports from trained spotters are used along with Doppler data to issue warnings of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods.

Spotter Training Classes will cover topics discussing severe thunderstorms that produce damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes and flash floods. Severe weather and lightning safety will also be discussed.

The class will be held in Alzada on Wednesday, April 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Alzada Community Hall.

A class will take place in Ekalaka that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. inside the jury conference room at Carter County Courthouse.

No registration is required. Refreshments will be served.

Both classes are sponsored by Carter County Disaster and Emergency Service. For questions contact Georgia Bruski, DES Coordinator, at 775-8721.
