Superintendent Schrock resigns

Former Superintendent Daniel Schrock took over the position in 2016.

After a three-year stint as the superintendent at Ekalaka Public Schools, Daniel Schrock resigned last week. Schrock took over the position in 2016 and wrote in a June 13 letter to the Eagle that he decided to resign in order to pursue another professional opportunity within education that will allow him to be closer to family.

Prior to Schrock, V. "Lee" Folley, Jr. held the position for one year and Allison Hardin served from 2009 to 2015. Schrock's letter to the Eagle follows:

"Letter To The Ekalaka Community

I am writing to you with my heartfelt thanks and appreciation for your support during these past three years during my tenure in Ekalaka as your superintendent. I have decided to resign my position as superintendent of the Ekalaka Public School District in order to pursue another professional opportunity within education that will bring me closer to my only child and only brother.

I wish the school district, its staff and students, and the larger community of Ekalaka my very best wishes going forward. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have had a front row seat in witnessing our students growth, development, and many successes. I will miss our great students the most and I ask one thing of each of you. I ask that you honor the education that you are given by making each day matter in working towards your goals and future aspirations. You have a team of professionals who care greatly for you and will do all that they can to benefit you as students and as individuals.

To our parents, community members and taxpayers, thank you for supporting your children's education and the staff who put it on the line every day in paying it forward to the next generation of fathers, mothers, and engaged citizens and leaders. Your continued support for your school is needed to adequately support the services and programs that make up a well rounded educational experience for our students. Without your continued support, our school and its students would certainly feel the adverse effects of the lack of funding from the state and the federal government.

Please accept my very best wishes and thanks again for the support you have shown me these past three years. No matter where I go professionally, I will always be thankful for the experience I gained while humbly serving as your superintendent.

Respectfully,

Daniel Schrock"

Ekalaka Public Schools will now look to fill the vacant position. Besides superintendent, the district is still currently seeking to fill four other positions including: sixth grade teacher, social studies teacher, business teacher and counselor.
