February 21, 2020

Donald Pulse, age 91, of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive. A memorial service was held on February 15 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Brother Guy Pontoriero officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive was entrusted with the arrangements.

Don was born on the family ranch to Dorothy and Homer in the pine covered hills south of Ekalaka, MT. The family of eight children had a classism's hardscrabble life made worse by the depression. At the age of 13, Don left home to go herd sheep on the Mizpah. During that time, Don rode his horse twelve miles round trip to attend the Johnson School. After a year, Don returned to Ekalaka to enroll in high school.

He met the love of his life Tunk (Bonita) when he spotted her from atop the Ferris wheel that had broken down at the Belle Fourche fair. While waiting for the Ferris wheel to be repaired, he could not keep his eyes off this beautiful girl jitterbugging. He told his friend that when they got down, he was going to ask this cute girl to dance. Don kept his word, and the bud of romance grew. After Don graduated, he embarked on a new adventure to go to barber school. Once he completed his education, he returned to Ekalaka. Once Tunk had graduated high school, the two were married August 3rd, 1948. There, he started barbering with his older brother, Bob in Ekalaka. Then in 1950, with baby Tish, they moved to Glendive where he went to work with Fred Dalsasso on Main Street. Son, Dake, joined the family in December 1952. In 1964, Don opened his own barbershop, Your Barbershop on Towne Street along with Your Beauty Shop next door. He later moved his shop to Westside Barbershop and retired in 1992.

After retirement, Don and Tunk spent as much time as possible fishing from their boat at their favorite spot, McGuire Creek. They also took in as many sporting events as possible.

Don contributed much to his loved community of Glendive. He was a key member in renovating the old Legion baseball fields into the current ABC fields in Glendive. He was also active in Lions Club and as he became club president was instrumental in acquiring the youth camp properties, through donations from the Sundling family, to the Lions club. He channeled his inspiration into the building of the A Frame, with much volunteer help, at the camp. He was very proud of this accomplishment, including the ability to find a water source. He enjoyed the many hours in that endeavor with Dennis Snow, who became a true friend.

Dad had such an enormous love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Tunk (Bonita), who were married for 72 years but as a couple were together for 76 years. His daughter LaTisha Starbuck (Gene) and her children: Kim Nelson (Scott) and daughters Melissa and Samantha; son Brian Bohl (Krystal) and their children Olivia and Henry; daughter Michelle Lyster (Cody) and daughter, Nora; daughter Meagan Pierson (Paul) children Taylor, Carter, Violet. His son Dake Pulse (Irina) and his children: Gabriel Pulse, son Jeremiah and daughters Summer and Naomi; Alex (Maria) and Victor Pulse (Nichole). He is also survived by his youngest brother Ken Pulse and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by brothers Glen, Marvin, Homer, and Robert and sisters Ruth and Dorothy.

The family is grateful for all of the love, support, and friendship. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite little league team, the Dawson County Fair Board or your charity of choice.
