Conversations with God

Wind is a gift?

Hello God, it’s me, Mara:

You know, Lord, a book of devotions began each month with a three-line verse (author unknown) entitled Gifts of the Season. February’s gift was The Seed. [“Planted in winter’s dark womb, prayer seeds germinate, creating new growth.”] We were to trust You, Lord, working unseen, waiting quietly for answers to our prayers.

The Wind is the Gift of the Season for March: (“Touch of Spirit’s breath offers lift to kites and prayers as March winds praise God.”). In March, we’re to pray that this month’s breezes will remind us of the Holy Spirit’s uplifting presence in all of our comings and goings.

Spring shyly blows in on the wind and timidly makes herself known as we notice bold blades of greening grass, fat buds on tree branches, skeins of geese circling in search of food and rest before traveling on toward their northern homes, baby animals of all sorts getting acquainted with their new world. Even tiny grasshoppers have made their appearance (a pity they don’t dine on the microscopic red mite).

How fun to watch children fly their colored kites as they race against the wind. Kites stretch the length and strength of their string, seemingly yearning to hobnob with the clouds up above them as a child’s imagination is stretched ever upward on the uplifting gentle breezes.

Holy Spirit, uplift us in all our comings and goings. May the March breezes remind us to praise Your Name, oh Lord, and help us to see the beauty and promise of all You have created and to share them with those we love.

Your word, Lord, reminds us in John 3:8: “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Love, Mara
