Earlier this spring, students from across Montana submitted entries to the 2020 Montana 'Ag in Color' design contest. The annual contest is hosted by the Montana Farm Bureau Federation. Normally, the winners of the contest earn a fun day in Helena to be honored, to spend the day with state dignitaries and to celebrate Montana agriculture. This year, that event couldn't happen.

Kimber Ross of Ekalaka was this year's statewide kindergarten drawing contest winner. Her teacher this year was Mrs. Marissa Frye, and the theme for her grade level was "Farm Animals in Montana."

Kimber is being raised on her family's cattle ranch outside of town. She enjoys the outdoors along with coloring, drawing and playing with her baby sister. She is a member of the Carter County Cloverbuds 4-H program, and her parents are members of the Montana Farm Bureau. She is very blessed to have received this award and wants to thank everyone for voting for her. Way to go, Kimber!

Piper Frye was the statewide winner for first grade. Her mother, Kristy Frye, served double duty this year as her teacher at Ekalaka Elementary. The first grade theme was "Grown in Montana."

Piper's favorite hobbies include: arts and crafts, gymnastics, basketball, 4-H Cloverbuds, reading and teaching herself to tap-dance. She loves animals and is especially fond of puppies and dogs. She also loves the Pioneer Woman and cooking. Piper says she is going to own a taco truck when she grows up. Congratulations, Piper!
