CCHS announces sports awards

There was no awards program to honor Ekalaka Public Schools athletes from grades 5-12 for the 2019-2020 sports season. But last week, the school sent the Eagle a listing of participants and award recipients.

Junior high volleyball participants this year were: Sarah Enos, Sadie Poppema, April DeFord, Nasya O'Connor, Ella Strangford, Adlen Larson-Byrne, Corlan Laughery, Bella Jensen, Nicole O'Connell, Kendra Tooke, Tegan Diede, Shaun-tey Kerr, Barbara Rose Elmore, Patricia DeFord, Kendall Kittelmann, Brynn Loehding, and Jennie Schmid. The team was coached by Brett Nielsen.

Ches Meyer again coached the junior high boys football team. Participants included: Roger Beach, Rylan Carroll, Weston Strub, Chace Loehding, Wyatt Melton, Kaleb Frye, Owen Poppema, Clay Rost, Jace Pardee, Zander Ashbrook, James Enos, Preston Jensen, Ethan Frye 8, Bradyen Bucholz, and Christian Ashbrook.

Returning lettermen on the CCHS football team this year were Turner Tooke, Brennen Bonsell, David Ashbrook, Ryan Rychner, Jared Pardee, Seth Kennedy, Mick O'Connor, and Grafton Bonsell. New lettermen were Royce Tooke, Tucker Tooke, Sean Wolenetz, J.W. Elmore, Cardell Laughery , Jaden Pardee, Caiden Chavarria, and Shayne Enos. Darin Schallenberger served as team manager. Mick O'Connor, Jared Pardee, Ryan Rychner, Darin Schallenberger, Jaden Pardee and Turner Tooke all made academic all-state for maintaining a 3.5 or better grade point average throughout the football season.

Mick O'Connor and Jared Pardee were first team all-conference selections on offense and Ryan Rychner made second team all-conference on offense. O'Connor was also selected first team all-conference defense. O'Connor and Jared Pardee were all-state selections. Jared Pardee was this year's MVP. Tenadore Kittelmann continued his tenure as the CCHS Head Football Coach and was again assisted by Greg Brence and Eric Lovec. CCHS made it to the playoffs in the team's first year back in 8-man.

Returning letterwomen for CCHS Volleyball this year were Kari Kittelmann, Tylee Loehding, Ella Owen, Rose Rychner, Jaelee Strangford, Hannah LaBree, Heather LaBree, Whitney Kittelmann and Gracie Tooke. New letterwomen were Heidi LaBree, Codi Melton, Katie Tooke and Kenzie Tooke. Zoie Rost, Emily O'Connell, Katy Ivy and Amaya Coleman received participation certificates.

Hannah LaBree, Gracie Tooke and Heather LaBree made the 2C All-Conference first team. Heather LaBree also received all-state honors. Members of the volleyball team who made academic all-state included: Whitney Kittelmann, Hannah LaBree, Heather LaBree, Gracie Tooke, Rose Rychner, Tylee Loehding, Kari Kittelmann, Codi Melton, Heidi LaBree, Kenzie Tooke, Katie Tooke, and Jaelee Strangford.

Stat leaders for CCHS Volleyball this year were as follows:

Aces: Heather LaBree 65, Whitney Kittelmann 49, Hannah LaBree 46.

Serve Percentage: Kari Kittelmann 96.9 percent, Gracie Tooke 95.9 percent, Heidi LaBree 94.9 percent.

Digs: Kari Kittelmann 253, Heather LaBree 246, Ella Owen 245.

Assists: Whitney Kittelmann 373, Hannah LaBree 269, Heidi LaBree 39.

Kills: Heather LaBree 157, Hannah LaBree 155, Gracie Tooke 144.

Blocks: Heather LaBree 28, Kenzie Tooke 23, Hannah LaBree 13.

Katie Tooke received the most improved player award, Hannah LaBree received the most inspirational award and MVP went to Heather LaBree. Michelle Tooke and Brittani Brence were this year's high school volleyball coaches.

Mariah Eiesland and Kylee Kennedy coached this year's junior high girls basketball team. Participants were: Sadie Poppema, Sarah Enos, Bella Jensen, Corlan Laughery, Nasya O'Connor, Tegan Diede, Shaun-tey Kerr, Nicole O'Connell, Kendra Tooke, Natalie Foxley, Kendall Kittelmann, Brynn Loehding and Jennie Schmid.

Participants in boys junior high basketball this year were Roger Beach, Rylan Carroll, Weston Strub, Kaleb Frye, Chace Loehding, Wyatt Melton, Jace Pardee, Owen Poppema, Clay Rost, Zander Ashbrook, James Enos, Preston Jensen, Travis Schallenberger, Christian Ashbrook, Tucker DeFord, Brayden Bucholz, Ryker Carroll and Ethan Frye. The team was coached by Clayton Stieg and Zach Elmore.

Returning letterwomen on the CCHS girls' basketball team were Hannah LaBree, Heather LaBree, Whitney Kittelmann, Kari Kittelmann, Ella Owen, Kenzie Tooke, Amaya Coleman, Codi Melton, Heidi LaBree and Rose Rychner. Tylee Loehding returned as a manager. New letterwomen included Katie Tooke and Tyra O'Connor. Katy Ivy, Zoie Rost, Kendall Kittelmann, Brynn Loehding and Jennie Schmid received participation certificates. Heather LaBree, Hannah LaBree and Heidi LaBree made the all-conference team. Hannah and Heather LaBree also both made the all-state team. Whitney Kittelmann, Hannah LaBree, Heather LaBree, Tyra O'Connor, Rose Rychner, Tylee Loehding, Kari Kittelmann, Codi Melton, Heidi LaBree, Kenzie Tooke and Katie Tooke were all members of academic all-state.

Miss Offense this year went to Heidi LaBree. Miss Defense was awarded to Hannah LaBree. Kari Kittlelmann won Miss Hustle and Tyra O'Connor was selected as most improved. MVP for the 2019-2020 season went to Heather LaBree. The Lady Bulldogs basketball season was cut short after a semifinal loss at the state tournament in Missoula. The team was scheduled to play a loser-out game against Scobey the following morning but the remainder of the tournament was called off due to the coronavirus.

Returning lettermen on the Bulldog basketball team this year included: Mick O'Connor, Jared Pardee, David Ashbrook, Ryan Rychner, Shayne Enos, Seth Kennedy, Brennan Graham, Turner Tooke and Jaden Pardee. New lettermen were Sean Wolenetz, J.W. Elmore and Ethan Frye. Ryker Carroll, Christian Ashbrook and Brayden Bucholz received certificates of participation. Darin Schallenberger and Caiden Chavarria served as managers. Mick O'Connor, Jared Pardee, Jaden Pardee, Ryan Rychner, Darin Shallenberger and Turner Tooke were members of academic all-state.

Mick O'Connor, Jared Pardee and Turner Tooke were 4C All-Conference selections; O'Connor was an all-state selection. Mr. Offense went to Turner Tooke; Mr. Defense went to Seth Kennedy. Jaden Pardee was selected as the sixth man of the year and Shayne Enos received the most improved player award. Jared Pardee received the Mr. All Around Award. The MVP for the 2019-2020 basketball season was Mick O'Connor.

There were no track seasons.
