Dogs start slow, pull away in Plentywood

October 16, 2020

It took a while for the Bulldogs (4-2) to get going last Friday night in Plentywood (2-4), but when they did they were once again tough to stop, eventually pulling away for a 58-20 victory.

Senior Jared Pardee, currently out with a broken arm, mentioned from the sideline during the game that it was the first time all season the Dogs hadn’t scored on their first possession. Plentywood continually blitzed inside gaps, creating havoc in the Bulldog backfield and confusing offensive linemen. It took most of the first half for the Dogs to adjust.

Defensively, the Bulldogs also had something pretty rare happen to them; they allowed a rushing touchdown, and it was a long one. A simple dive resulted in Plentywood’s first score. Later in the first half, Plentywood scored on a long pass play. A Dog defender was in the area, but got crossed up on his own feet and allowed the catch and run after to go for a score. Plentywood’s final score came on another pass play. Turner Tooke was in perfect position on the play and went for an interception. The ball went just over his fingertips.

On offense for the Dogs, it was a heavy dose of dives and option plays that got the job done. Shayne Enos did almost all of the scoring for Blue from the fullback position.

By the end of the third quarter the game was in hand and again younger players got valuable playing time. Sean Wolenetz, in his first game back from injury in several weeks, scored the games final touchdown on a quarterback keeper.

This week CCHS plays a Thursday night game in Circle. The Wildcats are one of the more physical teams in the conference and should match up well with the Bulldogs. Next week, Blue wraps up their regular season at home against MonDak. The Dogs need to win at least one of their next two games in order to make the playoffs.
