Conversations with God

A prayer for the new year

January 8, 2021

Hello God, it’s me, Mara:

“God of the years that lie behind us, Lord of the years that stretch before,

Weaver of all the ties that bind us, Keeper and King of the open door:

Grant us hope and courage glowing Whiter and pure as the stars above:

Grant us faith in a full stream flowing, From the heights of Your eternal love.

Out of the ruins of doubt and sorrows, Out of the aches and pain and tears,

Help us to fashion a new tomorrow, Free form the anguish of blighting fears.

All through the season of sowing and reaping, All through the harvest of song and tears.

Hold us close in Your tender keeping, O Maker of all New years.”

We take courage as we begin this New year, Lord, for we are depending on You: You who gave us this New year as a clean white page. Help us desire to start in Your will; then help us to continue to discover Your discernment, the place You have just for us. Luke 18:27 reminds us that “God can do what men can’t.”

We know that for our life to have inner peace and to be harmonious without stress, is a lot easier said than done, but it is the easiest type of existence – we just have to try, right? We need Your help, Lord, to be strong and courageous.

We know that You sit on the right hand of God, and that You are making intercession for the saints (that is US!), accorded to the will of God, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28). Thank You, Lord, for giving us 2021.

Love, Mara
