Ekalaka breaks several record high temperatures

On Tuesday Ekalaka reached 99 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. It wasn’t quite record breaking as the record high for June 15 is 100 degrees, set in 1919.

Several other days this month have been record breaking though.

Record high temperatures were reached on six of the first fifteen days this June. A high of 91 on June 3 broke the record high set on the same date in 1905. A high of 96 on June 4 this year broke a previous high of 92 set in 1988.

Then, records were set on four consecutive days from June 8 to June 11. June 8 was 99 degrees, breaking a record from 1988. On June 9 a high of 100 broke the record high of 98 set in 1961. On June 10 it reached 102 in Ekalaka, breaking a 103 year-old record from 1918 of 97 degrees. Another 102 degree day on June 11 broke a 100 year-old record of 101 degrees set on the same day in 1921.

A few cooler days are in the forecast, but as of Wednesday morning Ekalaka is on track for what could be the hottest June ever recorded. The current average maximum temperature for the month is 92.9 degrees, which would be a record and is almost 19 degrees hotter than normal. The daily average temperature for the month through June 15 is 74.3, which would also be a record and is about 13 degrees higher than the norm.
