Adam Miller

Adam Miller spent a few grades during his elementary school years living in a small town of around 100 people, so he's experienced small town living before. When asked about his experience in Ekalaka so far, the new social studies teacher at Ekalaka Public Schools said that he "really likes the small-town feel of it."

Aside from those few years in a small town, Miller spent most of his youth in Canton, South Dakota, a town of around 3,400 people close to the Iowa border. While in high school, he played on the offensive and defensive lines for the football team, threw shot put for the track team and wrestled as a heavyweight.

After graduating in 2017, Miller headed to Spearfish, South Dakota to attend Black Hills State University. There, he played one semester of college football while obtaining a bachelor's degree in History and Political Science. He was also the President of College Republicans for one year.

Around a month ago Miller was searching for teaching jobs online when he decided to expand his search from South Dakota to Montana. It was then that a job posting he found online led him to Ekalaka, a place he admitted he had never even heard of. Miller was hired as the social studies teacher and is currently working to obtain a master's degree in secondary education while he begins his teaching career here in Montana.

Prior to accepting the position in Ekalaka, he spent the summer working for State Farm Insurance in Spearfish.

Miller has always had an interest in history and political science and held internships working for both current United States senators from South Dakota prior to completing his undergraduate studies. He worked in both Rapid City and in Washington D.C.

Miller is also an assistant football coach for Carter County High School this year and is excited for the opportunity to coach. Besides teaching and coaching, he enjoys hiking, fishing and watching sports (especially the National Football League) in his free time. He comes from a large family as his mother is the oldest of eleven children and he has three sisters. Miller has a girlfriend who is currently working as a nurse in Rapid City, South Dakota.

So far, Miller has only been to two Montana towns, Alzada and Ekalaka - something he hopes to change in the near future.

"I'd like to see more of the state, maybe even go to Glacier sometime," he said.
