Netters win close contest in Wibaux

High school volleyball had a busy weekend with matches at home versus Circle on Friday and in Wibaux on Saturday.

The girl's junior varsity squad kicked things off with a tightly contested set against Circle, eventually winning 27-25. However, CCHS went on to drop the next three sets and lose the match. As a team, they compiled 9 aces and 17 digs. Three players led the team in aces with 2 apiece. Kendra Tooke led in kills (3 of 7) and aces (4 of 5). Kendall Kittelmann had 5 of the team's 17 digs.

The varsity Bulldogs had a rough outing against the Wildcats, losing three consecutive sets, 8-25, 13-25, 8-25. Greta Barrett had the team's lone ace. Codi Melton had 3 of 8 kills and Carly Aho tallied 3 of 5 assists. Heidi LaBree led Blue in digs with 8.

After losing the first two sets of the JV game at Wibaux on Saturday, the JV 'Dogs stormed back to force a fifth set with impressive wins (15-5, 15-11) in sets three and four. The final set was tight early on before the Longhorns pulled away with a six-point victory. Kendra Tooke compiled three of the girls' 7 kills and Nicole O'Connell tied for a team high in aces (3). Kittelmann led the team in digs (8 of 26) and assists (4 of 6). She also had 3 aces.

The varsity match in Wibaux was one of the most exciting high school volleyball contests in recent memory. After narrowly dropping the first set, 23-25, CCHS took sets 2 and 3 by a combined 11 points. Wibaux took the fourth set, 15-25, setting up a winner take all set to 15.

Back and fourth scoring had both crowds cheering loudly as the game was tied multiple times in its final moments. Lady Blue eventually pulled away with a win in the final set, 18-16, and won the match, 3-2.

Tyra O'Connor led the way for CCHS in digs with 6 of 27. Codi Melton and Carly Aho each had 6 of the team's 28 kills. Aho also had a team high in assists (9 of 20) and tied for a team high in aces (5 of 16).
