Bulldogs get much needed win over Dogies

The Bulldogs traveled to Forsyth last Friday night and got a much needed win over the 1-5 Dogies. The Bulldogs led for most of the game.

Most of Forsyth's scoring came on large chunk plays, both on the ground and through the air. The Dogs, though, were able to rip off a few big scoring plays of their own. In addition, they put together a few long, scoring drives in which they chewed up a lot of clock by working the ground game.

A pivotal point in the game came for the Bulldogs after a block in the back call and a holding call had them backed up way behind the chains. Facing a third down and 40 yards-to-go situation, Turner Tooke ran an option play up the right side that got the Dogs to a more manageable 4th down. Facing fourth down and 12, Tooke hit a wide open Ethan Frye out of the backfield. The conversion was a huge momentum shift and turning point in the game.

For most of the game, CCHS led by at least two scores. Their improving defense did enough to hold Forsyth out of the end zone a few times. At the final whistle, CCHS won by 22 points, 46-24.

Coach Kittelmann tried several different combinations of players on the offensive line throughout the contest, especially in the second half. Some experienced players moved between guard and end, and younger players gained experience on the line that should prove valuable in the future.

This Friday night, CCHS (2-4) will take on Culbertson (5-0). Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Rowley Field.
