CCHS Volleyball continues busy play

Last Thursday the CCHS Lady Bulldogs traveled to Plevna and defeated the Cougars in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-11 and 25-16. As a team, CCHS had 22 aces, 31 kills, 38 digs and 26 assists in the volleyball match. Codi Melton led in kills with 7. Tyra O'Connor had 8 digs. Heidi LaBree led the team in aces (8) and tied with Carly Aho for the lead in assists (12). Katie Tooke had the team's only block.

On Saturday, CCHS hosted the Willa Nies Memorial Volleyball Tournament. Against Baker's junior varsity squad, Codi Melton shined, leading the team in aces (2 of 6), kills (9 of 23) and digs (8 of 40). Brynn Loehding also had 8 digs. LaBree, meanwhile, had 14 of the team's 22 assists.

Next in the tournament, CCHS played Circle and lost two straight sets, 18-25 and 13-25. LaBree had 7 of 23 digs and 5 of 9 assists. She also had the team's lone ace. Melton had 5 of 13 kills.

Versus the Longhorns of Wibaux, Blue fared better, winning two of three sets (25-11, 19-25, 15-9). Zoie Rost and LaBree each had 5 assists in the match. LaBree also led in aces (5 of 11) and kills (6 of 19). Aho led Blue in digs (7 of 12).

In their final match of the tourney, CCHS lost two straight sets to Jordan (9-25, 23-25). CCHS tallied 38 digs in the contest, led by LaBree with 8. Aho led in assists (7 of 11) while Rost had 2 of Blue's 4 aces.

On Tuesday in Ekalaka, CCHS played a non-conference match versus Harding County, South Dakota. Blue got off to a great start, playing some of their best volleyball of the season. Harding County was able to trim the lead towards the end of the first set, but CCHS still came out with a 10-point win (25-15). CCHS went on to win the second set (25-23) but dropped the final three sets and lost the match. Tooke had a few key blocks to lead the way. Aho again had a team high in assists with 12. LaBree led in digs (9 of 48), kills (8 of 21) and aces (6 of 15).

The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to play at home versus Jordan on Thursday. On Saturday, they will again play at home versus Terry. Next Tuesday they host Baker.
