'Dogs battle in Wibaux

Bulldog Wyatt Melton goes up for two points in Wibaux on December 21st.

CCHS basketball teams traveled to Wibaux on December 21st to take on the Longhorns.

The JV boys won by three points in an overtime thriller as nine Bulldogs scored in the contest. Two players, Jace Pardee and Chace Loehding, finished the game with double-digit points. Blue went 9 of 19 at the free throw line. The game was knotted at 47 at the end of regulation before the Bulldogs outscored the Longhorns 5-2 in overtime. All of the overtime points for both teams came at the free throw line except for one field goal from eighth grader Kaleb Frye.

The varsity boys battled back from nine down at the end of the third quarter in Wibaux to make it a close game going into the final minutes before eventually losing by six. The 'Dogs were shorthanded in the game, missing a few players due to injury. Sean Wolenetz hit a pair of three pointers in the fourth quarter to bring the Dogs close, but turnovers at the end proved costly. Wyatt Ree of Wibaux and Jaden Pardee for Ekalaka each had 14 points to lead their respective teams on offense. Complete stats for the game were not available, but CCHS shot 8 of 12 from the free throw line; Wibaux went 9 of 21.
