A bridge over troubled water

Local donates time and materials for new walking bridge

February 25, 2022

Local Carl Knapp had already planned to donate time and materials to build a covered walking bridge between the employee parking lot on the south side of the new Carter County Healthcare Facility and the back entrance to the building before this winter. Then winter came, and brought with it multiple reports of Dahl Memorial employees slipping and falling on their walk to and from work, exemplifying the need for such a structure.

Knapp said that he milled the lumber a while back and built the majority of the timber framed structure in his shop. Over the weekend it was brought to its new location on the south side of the facility. Knapp milled all of the lumber on his father, Silas Knapp's, old mill. He is currently in the process of having a sign designed which will be attached to the bridge in memory of his late father.

Having the structure covered will help prevent snow and ice from building up, hopefully eliminating any future falls from those who work at the facility on their walk to and from work.
