Reflecting on a former superintendent of schools and the county spelling bee

 

Darlene Carter Rose was the Carter County Superintendent of Schools from 1990 to 2011.

Darlene Carter Rose first ran for Carter County Superintendent of Schools in 1990 and was successful against the incumbent. She served the county in that capacity until December of 2000. It was then that county commissioners went through the process of combining the office with the Clerk of District Court, due in large part to the fact that rural schools had dwindled in number, no longer warranting the need for a full-time elected position.

It is however, a requirement for a certified person to perform certain functions of the office and Carter Rose fulfilled that requirement until December...
