Election connection

Tis the season, election season that is.

The FEDERAL PRIMARY ELECTION will be held Tuesday, June 7, and conducted as a poll election. Electors unable to vote at the polls on June 7 can go to the election office and vote absentee. Ballots are now available, and electors who have applied for absentee ballots will be receiving them after May 13.

Polls will be open on election day only. Poll locations have been set for Alzada Community Center, Boyes Community Center and the Carter County Event Center. Electors who did not receive a ballot by mail and wish to vote absentee must contact the Carter County Election Office at 406- 775-8749 and request a ballot either by mail or in person. Electors are reminded that there are three party ballots this year, Democratic, Libertarian and Republican. Voters may vote only one ballot.

An INACTIVE ELECTOR is an individual that did not vote in the last Federal General Election. Each year the Clerk and Recorder/Election Administrator’s Office sends out a confirmation notification to each elector that did not vote in the prior election. If the individual returns the confirmation notification, that person is considered to be an active elector, no further action is required. If the confirmation notification is not returned, that individual will become an inactive elector.

An inactive elector may reactivate their voting status to an active elector at any time by completing a new voter registration card or by appearing at an election and providing sufficient identification. They may then vote. Contact the office with questions at 406-775-8749.

The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please call the office with any questions or concerns.
