Ag Development & Marketing Bureau hosts South American buyers

November 11, 2022

The Ag Development and Marketing Bureau at the Montana Department of Agriculture focuses on expanding market opportunities for Montana farmers. Marketing Officer Weston Merrill recently led a team of South American buyers searching for high quality chickpeas, lentils, green peas, durum, wheat, and barley.

“In experiences like this, associating the buyer with the seller is unique. My role is to make that connection succeed.” Department of Agriculture Marketing Officer Weston Merrill said.

The team traveled throughout the Treasure State meeting quality experts, merchandisers, producers, MWBC, and state representatives. Weston is fluent in Spanish and offered translation and consultation throughout the mission. Purchases of Montana grains and pulses immediately followed the visit. A video recap of the mission is available HERE and outlines various market development activities conducted by the Department of Agriculture every year.

Montana Department of Agriculture is proud to tell the story of our high-quality pulse crops. For this specific trade mission, our team showed buyers from Chile, Dominican Republic, Peru, and Colombia everything Montana Agriculture has to offer.

The Montana Department of Agriculture’s mission is to protect producers and consumers, and to enhance and develop agriculture and allied industries. For more information on the Montana Department of Agriculture, visit agr.mt.gov.
