The Carter County Sheep & Cattle Growers Association Annual Meeting will be held on November 14, 2017.

All members and individuals who might be interested in joining the organization are invited to attend the meeting.

Anyone who has industry issues, or would like to submit a resolution for the meeting, is asked to contact Vice Chairman Shaun Tauck at (406)-599-3417 by November 13, 2017.

The meeting will take place at St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall in Ekalaka. It will be held in conjunction with a cattle nutrition seminar sponsored by MSU Extension and University of Wyoming Extension.

The association meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. with agency updates, followed by the business meeting. A silent auction will be held throughout the program. Proceeds from the auction will go toward the Carter County Sheep & Cattle Growers scholarship fund.

At 4:00 p.m., a cattle nutrition seminar, Cow Herd Nutrition and Alternative Feed/By Products, will be put on by Dr. Greg Lardy from North Dakota State University

At 4:45 pm, Dr. Andy Roberts, USDA-ARS Fort Keogh, will present “Heifer Development in the Feedlot or Native Range?”. Dr. Roberts will give a comparison of heifers weaned into a feedlot and developed at ~1.4 lbs/d to fence line weaned heifers left on the range and developed at ½ to ¾ lb/d. He will also provide insight into how using native range and two strategies for supplementation can decrease cost of heifer development and improve production efficiency.

At 5:30 p.m., “Drought Management Options” will be presented by Dr. Janna Kincheloe and Dr. Andy Roberts, USDA-ARS Fort Keogh.

At 6:00 p.m., Dr. Megan VanEnom from Montana State University Extension will give a presentation titled “How Drought Impacts Record Keeping, Culling & Body Condition Scores (BCS).”

Dr. VanEnom will discuss culling, record keeping, how to use records to make cull decisions, and how drought can impact culling decisions.  She will also talk about body condition scoring, how to do it, and nutritional impacts on BCS.

The evening will conclude with a roast beef dinner.
