Independence Day

 


To light the celebration’s fuse, the Belltower Community Hall will be having a potluck on July 3. Beef, provided by the O’Connors, will be on the menu. Activities will included cornhole and horseshoes.

On Wednesday come out to the triangle in Ekalaka for Fourth of July festivities starting at 5 p.m. Local businesses will host activities and booths until 8 p.m. Independence Day will be capped off by a fireworks display sponsored by the Carter County Chamber of Commerce and launched by the Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department.

The Chamber of Commerce will be a holding a “Minute to Win It” contest where teams of two will compete in eight separate events in an effort to score the most points and be declared the winner. Spots are open for 12 teams, to reserve a place text Eva Grimes at 975-6444.

Stompin’ Grounds is partnering with Jaelee Strangford to help get her to Europe next summer. Shaved ice will only be $2 and half of each sale will go to Strangford’s fund.

The American Legion will be having a free-will donation fish fry at the Wagon Wheel Cafe. The Wagon Wheel will also have a face painting both. Dawg House Pub will have a bounce house for the kids and the Carter County Museum will host an atlatl contest to find out who the most accurate spear thrower is.

The fireworks will be launched from the rodeo arena and visible throughout the Ekalaka sky. The chamber is still accepting donations through Thursday, June 28 to meet the goal of $2500. The fund is currently at $1965. Please bring donations to Stompin’ Grounds or the Ekalaka Eagle.
