Easter

Hello God, it’s me, Mara:

You know, Lord, an Easter Baskets is easy and fun to make. A small paper basket (3” X 1 ½ inches) with a little bunny pasted on the front, and across him is written ”Some bunny’s been pray‘in for you.”

A while back a friend who taught a Sunday School class wanted a poem. She listed items she wanted included in the Easter Basket for hay (green Easter Grass) ‘some’ gold coins (‘peeps’), and an empty egg shell (representing the empty tomb). She wanted to be sure that at least the children in her class knew the meaning of all the words…here’s what developed.

Easter Basket Poem

Little Lord Jesus, first bed was of hay, some green Easter grass we’re using today.

Bags of gold coins depicts betrayal of Christ; Judas betrayer, paid for that tryst.

Cho – co – late Rooster shows Peter debased; three-time-denial, then looked in Christ’s face.

Basket is woven together with thorn to symbolized crown like Jesus had worn.

A hollow egg shell for tomb that is bare; Yes! Jesus arose – He lives! But not there!

Marshmallow bunnies, a soft yellow chick, new life and new birth – He wants us to pick.

Some foil covered eggs like streets shiny, gold; streets like in heaven where no one grows old.

Our Jesus lives there, inviting us, too; Mansions He’s building for me and for you.

This small Easter Basket, symbolic today, gives story of Jesus to show us the way. [By ‘JH’]

Though she used familiar items, she followed the advice stated in Titus 2:1 “You however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine,” making sure that the children knew the meaning of all the words, used.

We’ll add Matthew 28:6, “He is not here, for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Thank You, Lord, for Your precious gift to us.

Love, Mara
