Ekalaka Public Schools: A burst of activity in early 2024

submitted by Mrs. Carol Spencer

Ekalaka Public Schools have been a hive of activity throughout January and February, setting a dynamic tone for the year. The elementary students kicked things off with impressive halftime performances during basketball games, showcasing their basketball skills. Under the guidance of Rachael Fischer and her dedicated team, these young talents also took part in several gymnastic displays, earning widespread applause. The excitement extended beyond gymnastics, as many of our junior high and upper elementary students traveled to basketball tournaments, bringing home victories and showcasing the spirit of Ekalaka.

Our high school basketball teams made us proud at the district level, with the boys' team making a valiant effort and the girls' team advancing after a nail-biting match against the Jordan Mustangs. In addition to sports, our students have been excelling academically and in extracurricular activities. FFA members demonstrated their skills at Districts in Baker and Miles City, with seven out of eight teams qualifying for state competitions. FCCLA is also making strides, preparing for the state with several creative projects.

February ended on a high note with the Breakfast with a Bestie and February Bark Awards event, celebrating students who exemplified honesty and showed remarkable progress in mathematics. The event was a success, with over 100 attendees enjoying the festivities and reinforcing the community spirit that defines our school.

As we move forward, the calendar remains packed with promise. High school track will commence on March 11, followed by junior high track on March 18. The prom is scheduled for April 20, promising a night of memories for our students. Additionally, our students will engage in various events, including Academic Olympics, Music Festival, FCCLA, and FFA, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching spring.

The upcoming events provide opportunities for our students to excel, learn, and grow. Let's continue supporting each other, celebrating our accomplishments, and embracing the challenges and opportunities ahead. Together, we are building a brighter future for every Ekalaka Public Schools community member.
