Castleberrys named 2019 parade marshals

Fulton and Betty Jo Castleberry both grew up in Carter County and graduated from Carter County High School. Fulton grew up in Ekalaka and Betty Jo (LaBree) Castleberry grew up on O'Fallon Creek 17 miles northwest of Ekalaka.

They were married in 1957 while Fulton was serving in the army and returned to Ekalaka in 1966 when they purchased the ranch his grandfather had started in 1895.

The Days of '85 have special meaning to them as Fulton's grandfather, Frank Castleberry, first came to the area with the Continental Land and Cattle company from Texas with a trail herd in 1885. His grandmother, Ida Speelmon, was already in the area, as she had arrived with her parents when she was two in 1883. Frank and Ida were married by Amos Lambert in 1887.

All four of Fulton and Betty Jo's grandparents lived within a twenty mile radius and were settled in what was then Custer County by 1904.

There are now little children living on the ranch that are the sixth generation of the family to live there. Fulton and Betty Jo have not strayed far and love Carter County and its people.
