Former Broadus student continues his passion for the Civil War in the battlefields of Gettysburg

In choosing Gettysburg College and taking advantage of the many hands-on learning opportunities available to him, Jaeger Held is able to continue pursuing his passion for Civil War history and growing even closer to his roots. During his first semester, he has already joined the Civil War Club and the Pennsylvania College Guard reenactment group, as well as volunteering his time at the Civil War Institute.

Through the Civil War Institute's Brian C. Pohanka Program, Held has been hired for an internship next summer with the National Park Service at Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in West Virginia, an opportunity to continue to learn about such a defining war in American history.

Held graduated from Senior High in Billings in 2019 but also attended school in Broadus. At Senior High, he was the founder and president of the History Club, a member of German Club, and a senator for the Student Council.

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition. Alumni include Rhodes Scholars, a Nobel laureate, and other distinguished scholars. The college enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
