Betty J. Moullet

On the morning of September 19, 2021, Sarah (Betty) Juanita (née Cope) Moullet passed away peacefully of natural causes. Betty had been residing at the Powder River County nursing home in Broadus, MT at the time of her passing. Betty would have been 93 years old in November.

Betty was born near Neffs, Ohio on November 23, 1928. She was the fifth of the nine children of Sarah Eleanor (Neff) Cope and Harold Duane Cope.

She grew up in the St. Clairsville Ohio area and received her nursing training in Wheeling, West Virginia. She came to Montana as a newly trained RN with her sister Jean, also an RN, and her brother Jim, a doctor. While she was working at Dahl Memorial Hospital in Ekalaka, MT she caught the eye of a young busted up cowboy, Bud Moullet, who threw his socks at her to get her attention. After a three-week courtship, Bud and Betty married in Miles City Montana on March 22, 1951.

Their early years were spent on a ranch in the Chalk Buttes area near Ekalaka where they raised their five children. Betty continued her nursing career while raising a family.

Betty loved gardening, cooking, time at the ranch and sewing. Every grandchild received their own personal Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church where she was an elder. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as many children she babysat who referred to her as Grandma Betty.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Lucy) of Volborg, Peter (Lori) of East Helena, Timothy (Colleen) of Huntley; daughters Patricia Carino of Humble Texas and Celeste Askin (Ron) of Helena; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her brothers Ellis (Maureen) Cope, Richard (Betty) Cope and David Cope. She also leaves many other family members, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard (Bud), her parents Eleanor and Harold Cope, her brothers Bill, Jim and Jerry Cope and sisters Jean Bleth and Joanne Speece and one son-in-law, Ron Carino.
