Area veteran organizations will be holding a Memorial Day service Monday, May 30 at Beaver Lodge Cemetery in Ekalaka.

The service starts at 11 a.m. Veterans performing the services should arrive at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial Day is an American federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. service members who died while on active duty.

First enacted to honor union and confederate soldiers following the Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.
