Thank you for covering the Ernest Tooke Memorial Match Bronc Ride!

It brought back a great memory of going with my father to the Tooke ranch to ride broncs.

They paid him $3 a horse to buck them out to see which rodeo they would want to send them to. He rode eighteen horses that day. He felt he had taken too much money from the Tookes.

It was a lot of money - especially in those days (1940’s)! But if you ever bucked out any horses you know the beating you take, but my dad loved to ride. I have spent many years in other countries – especially China, as a missionary and I have never met a Chinese as rough as one of the Tooke horses!!

(That bronc rider was Nig Phalen and I am his son, age 88, Jim Phalen.)
