4-H NEWS

The Gumbo Gophers 4-H Club held their 6th meeting of the year at the Alzada Hall. There were six members, 4 leaders and 3 visitors present. The club is planning a community barbecue on July 20th at 6 p.m. Free-will donations for the meal will go to the Alzada Fire Department.

They will also have a silent auction to benefit the 4-H club. Any amount over their needs will be donated back to the fire department. They made plans to have a dunk tank, yard games, water balloons and toddler games. There will be fun for all ages. Members volunteered to get donations and to bring items for the meal.

After the meeting, members gave the following demonstrations: Zander Oliver - Rabbit Care, Keenan McInerney - Rabbit Showing, Siri Johnston - Cat Showmanship, Selah Johnston - How to Clean a Cage, Colyn Higgins - Chicken Care and Showmanship.

The Gumbo Gophers have had a busy and fun year so far. Members made and delivered Christmas baskets and caroled many of the local community members. In February, they had a very fun ‘Ski Trip Day’ to Terry Peak. In March, they learned how to decorate cupcakes

In May the club got together to weigh lambs and then the members each sheared their lambs for the first time. Many of the club members (Colyn, Clancy, Keenan, Zander, Selah, Suri, Natalie and Olivia) competed in different competitions at All Events Day and did very well. Senior member, Keenan McInerney, will be competing in ‘Hippology’ at State 4-H Congress in July. The club wishes her the best of luck.
