Bulldog defense porous in Circle

Brothers Kaleb Frye, left, and Ethan Frye, right, congratulate each other after a touchdown score in Circle on October 8th.

On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in Circle, the Bulldogs lost a football game to the Wildcats by a final score of 26 to 60.

The October 8th contest started swell for Blue as they took the opening kickoff and put together one of their best offensive drives of the season. After taking an early 6-0 lead though, things quickly went awry for the 'Dogs.

Following the ensuing kickoff, the Wildcats scored on their first play from scrimmage. It didn't stop there. Circle actually went on to score on their first offensive play in each of their first three possessions. On the Wildcats' fourth possession, the Bulldogs at least held them to third down before allowing a score.

A porous defense throughout the contest coupled with offensive Bulldog mistakes (fumbles, missed blocking assignments, and penalties) led to a game that was almost out of reach by halftime.

The 35-point running clock rule was implemented for much of the second half, even though Blue's offense started putting together the run game. One highlight for the 'Dogs was a kick return that junior Ethan Frye, fresh back from injury, nearly ran for a touchdown. Another bright spot was when senior end J.W. Elmore, also returning from injury, ran in a long score.

CCHS (2-5) will wrap up their season with a home game vs. Fairview (5-2) on Friday night at Rowley Field.
