On senior meals

submitted by Tricia Lovec

Senior Citizen Coordinator

Beginning July 1st, there will be some changes to the Congregate Meal program for Carter County. Welcome to Jimi Fix, the new congregate meal cook at the Senior Center.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Kathy Tobin and Lee Smith for their years of service.

Also, beginning in July there will no longer be "to go" meals available through the center. The emergency declaration that was in place during COVID has been lifted. Congregate meals are meant to be a social time as well as a nutritious meal. Area seniors are encouraged to go inside the center. All meals include choice of coffee, tea, or milk, are acceptable to the elderly consumer and meet 1/3 RDA guidelines.

Individuals who are 60 years old or older, or are the spouse of someone who is, can eat a meal for only $6. All others are welcome but must pay $15 per meal.

Meals on Wheels are available to those who cannot eat at the center. MOW are available seven days a week, however individuals can choose to receive them anywhere from 1-7 days.

For more information on this and other programs, contact the Senior Coordinator 406-775-8751.
