School desperate for bus drivers

Board votes to make substantial increase in driver pay

In an effort to recruit more bus route drivers at Ekalaka Public Schools, the unified board of trustees recently voted to substantially increase driver pay.

The previous route pay for Class E drivers (driving school SUVs) was $16.16 per hour. The board recently approved increasing that wage to $20.25 per hour.

The previous pay for CDL drivers was $21.72 per hour. That pay was also increased as new driver's with a CDL will start at $27.21 per hour.

Currently, the district is running only one CDL bus route and one Class E route due to a lack of drivers, but there are enough students at the school to add at least two more CDL routes.

Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the school for more information at 406-630-1523.
