As a past board member of the Dahl Memorial Healthcare I would like to say how pleased I am to hear the current Dahl Memorial Board has hired CAH Consultants. I believe the guidance from the consulting firm and understanding they bring to the table on Rural Healthcare will have a positive impact on the future of Dahl Memorial Healthcare. The current Board of Directors have reached out to CAH Consultants to assist in building a plan that will regain a positive and professional working relationship with the County Commission...

The Bulldogs won a barn burner versus the Circle Wildcats on Friday night at Rowley Field. Both offenses were finding success with the run game, especially in the second half. There were three scores all within 1:34 at one point in the fourth quarter. The pivotal moment in the game proved to be in the final two minutes of the first half. The Bulldogs were up two points but Circle had the ball deep in the red zone when a fumble resulted in a turnover. A quarterback sneak on...

  • The Anderson Place

    Bill Lavell|Updated Sep 9, 2021

When we Lavells were frequenting our grandparents ranch near Belltower, there were three livable houses on their ranch. I have written about the first two. Today I am going to tell you about the Anderson place. It is worth repeating that Grandma and Grandpa Coons were a perfect team. He was a slow, solid worker. She also was a worker extraordinaire, and took a one hundred and sixty acre homestead and made it into a creditable, if small, ranch by buying other properties of people who didn’t make it. Despite being less than f...

  • Conversations with God

    Updated Sep 9, 2021

Hello God, it’s me, Mara: You know, Lord, this sounds like something that happened to us! So, just sharing – author and date unknown: “After I finished loading the groceries in my car, I drove out of the parking lot to turn left onto the highway. The red light stopped me, but at least it gave me a chance to notice the beautiful sunshine. Staring at the light made the wait seem longer. I began to mentally rehearse all that I hoped to accomplish that afternoon. As soon as the light changed, I moved my foot from the brake to th...

  • Cooking in the West

As summer changes into fall, the creatures get grouchy. Perhaps it is because they know winter is coming. The yellow jackets and hornets and even honey bees become aggressive. However, there is no creature on earth more irritating and detestable than a packrat. I believe it is because they mark everything, so they just ooze as they go, and they build a huge nest called a midden wherein you might find everything that has been missing in an outfitter camp for the last five years. They do not make good tent mates. When I...

  • Input needed

    Updated Sep 9, 2021

Carter County is seeking public input regarding the County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update. The current plan was developed in 2013 and has expired the usual five-year life span. As part of the plan update, the county re-evaluates the hazards that directly affect Carter County and its residents, and lists corresponding mitigation actions. Hazard mitigation aims to reduce or eliminate the loss of life, injury or property damage, and mitigation actions are the specific projects that help to achieve those goals. A quick,...
