Letter to the editor

November 16, 2018

To the citizens of Ekalaka,

As members of the Town Council, we would like to keep the public informed of the status regarding Mormon Avenue. We realize that the condition of Mormon continues to be a concern. We have explored several options in how to repair the road so that it remains cost effective, but no final solutions have been reached. This is due to, but not limited to, money, our remote location, lack of accessible resources, man power and road equipment.

At the November 7 meeting, a motion was made to have the county fill the potholes with gravel, blade them and pack the gravel in for a temporary fix until this spring. We have been informed that the gravel will freeze in the holes due to the moisture that is within the gravel, holding it in the potholes during the winter months. Permanent options are being researched on an ongoing basis, with confidence we can reach a final decision soon.

We realize the road is a safety hazard and is a hindrance to travel. We are trying our best to do what is best. If you have questions, comments, or concerns PLEASE attend a town meeting at the Town Office. We will be addressing this issue again at our next meeting which will be held on December 5 at 5 p.m.

Thank you for your patience,

Dave Loudermilk, Cindy Quade, Jessica Walker & Raquel Williams
