Cold with snow

If I remember correctly, 1935-36, the year Camp Needmore was being built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, (CCC), February was a cold and very snowy month. In fact it was the coldest February on record, a miserable month where their bulldozer was kept running 24 hours a day, to avoid its freezing up.

In September of 1935, a snow storm closed highways across the state. The whole year of 1936 was colder and snowier than usual. Records were set.

We haven’t set any records this year, but that doesn’t warm anything. We’ve been cold and colder, with temperature readings long distances below zero The snow hasn’t set any records, it just keeps building and building.

But what do I know? I haven’t been outside since December 12. And I won’t emerge from my warm house until June 12. I have no warm coat or wrap that works in this wheelchair. The headrest makes it necessary for garments to climb over the headrest and come down behind it, keeping warm air close to me.

If I put on a coat before heading out, it leaves me sticking out from the back of the wheelchair, which was sculpted to fit my back, not the back padded by coat.

I’ll be patient and wait. Warm weather is bound to return and require the window air conditioner. “If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?” Well we don’t usually have Spring; according to “Earl” we have Winter and August.

I’m wearing those sweaters I saved for special occasions: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, and public outings. They don’t need to wait any longer. I deserve to look my best just for myself and my husband.

I wish I had ordered more sweaters early this Winter, but I have no room in my closet to stack them. Now I’ll work on my Spring wardrobe. This is fun!
