Conversations with God

When?

November 1, 2019

Hello God, it’s me, Mara: You know, Lord, sometimes we wonder when we should read Your Word? Is there a certain time to read? Pondering the question of ‘when’: should it be morning, evening, mealtime, bedtime, or maybe in time of conflict and confusion, or when we are sick or lonely, or maybe even angry? Should we read Your Word when we are serene, peaceful and contemplative? Should we read only when we have ‘time’, or, maybe we should just ‘squeeze’ You in, Lord? When is the best time to read Your Word?

Then – someone shared: “You are asking ‘When’? Well, I’ll tell you when!”

WHEN in sorrow (John 14)

WHEN men fail you (Psalm 27)

WHEN you have sinned (Psalm 51)

WHEN you worry (Matthew 6:19-34)

WHEN you are discouraged (Isaiah 40)

WHEN you need courage for a task (Joshua 1)

WHEN God seems far away (Psalm 139)

WHEN you need peace or rest (Matthew 11:28-30)

WHEN you feel bitter or critical (1 Cor. 13)

WHEN you are lonely or fearful (Psalm 23)

WHEN you doubt (Romans 8:28)

WHEN you need guidance (Matthew 7:7, 8) and Isaiah 17:20).

As has often been said, the Bible itself is timeless. Not only does it live on, down through generation after generation, but it is there for us, any hour of the day or night to comfort and inspire us, to guide and direct our paths. We can turn to the Bible as often as we wish, it is there for us twenty-four hours a day!

An additional bit of encouragement in found in Your Word; Isaiah 34:16 tells us: “Search from the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.” Thank You, Lord, now we know ‘when’.

Love, Mara
