Conversations with God

Doing good deeds

November 13, 2020

Hello God, it’s me, Mara:

You know, Lord, good deeds DO happen. Monday at the Post Office, an older chap was limping with a cane headed to the door, a young guy came in, held the door for the older man, asked him if he needed any help. The older man paused, looked at the young guy, smiled, thanked him for holding the door, and said he was doing OK, a lot better than he was ‘last week’. The younger guy watched to see that the older chap got to his car; when around the corner came a gal with a baby in her arms and a package to mail. She was struggling a bit with her arms full; the young guy opened the door for her. She walked through, paused, looked at the young guy, smiled and said, “Thank you for helping me, you must be an Angel from Heaven, as I was wondering how I was going to pull that door open.” She chuckled, he smiled and left.

At the grocery store last week, an elderly couple struggled with a grocery cart. Suddenly, a middle school aged boy came dashing around the cars, ran up to them, asked if he could help; they paused, letting him push the cart, the man opened their trunk, the boy helped load it. The lady looked at the boy and said, “How did you know we needed a bit of help?” The boy smiled, pointed across the parking lot, and said, “My Grandma saw you, thought you needed help. She’s teaching me to be caring to others, and said IF I helped you, she’d buy me an ice cream cone, so I thank you, and I will take your cart back to the store,” and off he went.

Reminds us of Hebrews 10:24: “…and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds”. Thank You, Lord.

Love, Mara
