Conversations with God

It must be Spring!

Hello God, it’s me, Mara:

You know, Lord, as the days simply seem to zip on by, glancing out, we notice that it is almost Spring; the March winds are blowing less, cattle are resting after feeding, birds swoop here and there and we can see many Babies all around, almost anywhere one looks. We’ve seen: foals, calves, lambs, chicks, kids and kits and April is just around the corner.

From “God’s Calendar” we read: “April is a gentle maiden with eyes sky blue, she’s ‘dressed’ in a green kirtle (dress) braided with flowers. She has smiling lips, and her smile is warm, though her hands are still rather cold as some snowflakes have not quite melted from them yet. Her voice is the bluebird’s voice as the Bluebird’s trills a surprise of, “Ber-mu-da! Ber-mu-da!” What a lyrist she is.

“April is the willows greening, the elm in bloom, the adventurous grass blades surprising emerald in places sheltered from the winds but open to the sun, and now April’s stiff fingers thaw out so as to pick the first violet and wear it at her lily throat.

“The bluebird flits from post to post like a winged amethyst; and his melody bubbles like a gentle spring on a creek bank.

“And Spring is leaning to pick cowslips or caress a dog-tooth violet or smile at a Johnny-jump-up as Johnny- jump-ups lift their smiling faces, tear-wet, yet smiling to hear April’s song, ‘Spring! Spring! Spring!’”

We’ve even seen that the gophers are out, the squirrels are busy, as are the bunny rabbits. Trees are beginning to look fresher, and it is fun to watch those scudding clouds tease while a chill wind still nips us as we’re out and about. Take a look at some Pussy Willows, prairie crocus – oh, and best of all, notice that a young man’s fancy turns… Ah!

Thank You, Lord, for beautiful seasons.

Love, Mara
